Beeslack S1 and Mauricewood P7 Learn CPR
It was a great privilege to welcome Cabinet Minister for Public Health and Sport, Aileen Campbell to Beeslack Community High School this morning.
The Minister was in school to launch the Out-of Hours Cardiac Arrest Strategy review for Scotland. All of our S1 pupils and P7 pupils from Mauricewood Primary school were involved in the event and were all taught how to do CPR. Part of the strategy is to focus training our young people as research shows that the vast number of cardiac arrests happen in the home.
There was a great atmosphere in the hall as the pupils were taught by a wide variety of partner agencies including the fire service, Scottish Ambulance service, Save a Life Scotland, Penicuik First Responders to name but a few. Ms Campbell even trained with a groups of pupils and it was great to see all the pupils responding so positively to the experience.
Plans are now developing to train the rest of the school community.
