Timing changes to the School Day
Following a period of consultation which focused on proposals to reduce our lunchtimes to 40 minutes and finishing at 3.35 pm, we would like to share the feedback with you.
Although there was strong support for finishing at 3.35 pm there was substantial concern regarding the potential impact on lunchtime clubs if we reduce the time to 40 minutes. We have considered all the feedback and are very aware of the impact that extracurricular clubs/activities have on the school. With this in mind we don’t want to change our lunchtime arrangements and potentially compromise the many activities/clubs that take place at this time.
Parents and pupils suggested starting at 8.30 am and reverting back to 50 minute lunchtimes which was the previous time allocation as a possible solution. This would allow lunchtime clubs to continue to function effectively and also facilitate a 3.35 pm finish at the end of the day. We have consulted staff on this amended proposal and have a figure of 96% in support of this timing change to the school day. Finishing school at 3.35 pm would:
- Facilitate greater opportunity for after school extra-curricular activities;
- Enable pupils particularly in the winter months to travel home in day light;
- Allow staff to attend staff training sessions which normally start at 4.00 pm;
- Put Beeslack Community High School more in line with the other High School finishing times.
Your views are always valued and considered when it comes to making changes. We are again seeking your views on an amended proposal which includes starting at 8.30 am, 50 minute lunchtime and finishing school at 3.35 pm.
This consultation is via the link below which can be accessed on the school website up until Monday 12 June 2017.
If you would like to discuss any aspect of this amended proposal please contact Mr Hepburn in school.
