@ypi_scotland launch part 2: Charities Speed Dating
On Thursday 20h September S3 pupils had the opportunity to ‘speed date’ with a number of local charities.
We were delighted to welcome Hopscotch, supported by 2017 winners, MYPAS supported by 2018 winners, Lothians Veterans Centre supported by 2018 finalists, Penicuik First Responders, Thistle Foundation, Penicuik Food Bank, Beeslack Family Disabled Club, Midlothian Sure Start, Ronald McDonald House, The Salvation Army, Beeslack All Stars DSC and Penicuik Youth Band. A huge hanks goes to all presenters, both guests and pupils, as well as the S6 helpers who kept the event running smoothly.
Also there to give the benefit of their wisdom and experience were selected YPI alumni including previous winners, finalists, and the group who could, perhaps, give the best advice of all; the ones that did not make it to the final last year and they knew exactly why!
This exciting event gave the young people a chance to learn about local groups, make contacts and engage with our local community to enable them to move forward and #makeadifference.
It was a truly humbling experience standing in the middle of the Games Hall watching our young people engage with our guests: we are very proud!
The next step for S3 is to choose which charity to champion before creating presentations that could lead to their choice receiving a £3000 grant from the Wood Foundation, or a £50 donation from our own non-uniform days. The first non-uniform day takes place on Friday 12th October.
