Youth and Philanthropy Initiative Launch 2016

On Thursday 27th October we were delighted to welcome Jane Clifford from YPI Scotland to launch our first Youth and Philanthropy Initiative project.

S3 were introduced to the idea of Philanthropy and worked together to discuss social issues and consider which one they may wish to focus on.  In the coming weeks they will work in groups to research a local charity.  Pupils are encouraged to choose a charity that they are passionate about and have links with.  They will create presentations hoping to win the grant for their chosen charity for £3000 from the Wood foundation.   The grand final will take place in March, and all finalists will receive a donation for their charity from the school non-uniform days.  This is a fantastic opportunity for our young people to make a difference to their local community.

Following the event we received a lovely email from Jane. It's always nice to get positive feedback about our pupils and staff!

Many thanks for the opportunity to launch your YPI programme this morning and for all your hard work organising everything. I really enjoyed working with your young people. They were polite, engaged and enthusiastic - a real credit to the school. Please pass on my thanks to all the staff who helped out. Their input was much appreciated and it was great to hear that they had also enjoyed the experience!

All the very best to the pupils on their YPI journey and I look forward to hearing how the final goes.
