Notification of Major Gas Works: Edinburgh Road

Please find below and attached information about major gas works on the A701, beginning on Saturday 29 June 2019:

As you may be aware, SGN manages the network that distributes natural and green gas to 5.9 million homes and businesses across Scotland and the south of England. We also provide the gas emergency service in these areas.

I’m writing to let you know that on Saturday 29 June 2019 we will start our £350,000 project to upgrade the gas network in the Edinburgh Road area of Penicuik.

This essential work involves the replacement of old, metal gas mains with new plastic pipe to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply. Our project will last approximately 15 weeks and will be carried out over five phases to minimise inconvenience.

Our work in Edinburgh Road will begin at its junctions with Mauricewood Road and continue southwards to Carnethy Avenue. As we progress along the road, temporary traffic lights will be in place around our work area, and the following junctions will be closed in phases:

  • Eastfield Farm Road
  • East Queensway
  • Eastfield Derive
  • Cuiken Terrace
  • Cuiken Avenue

After our work in Edinburgh Road is complete, we’ll be working in nearby residential streets. All local residents will be notified by letter if we’re going to be working in their street.

Additional information about our work can be found in the attached customer leaflet.

We understand that people can get frustrated by roadworks. However, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means that when the work is complete, Penicuik residents will continue to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.

We’ll also be posting regular updates on our website https://www.sgn.co.uk/Roadworks/Scotland-projects/ and using social media and traffic bulletins to keep residents and motorists informed.

Please feel free to share this information with your colleagues, stakeholders and anyone else who may be impacted by our work.

If you have any other enquiries about this project, please call us on 0131 469 1728 during office hours (8am to 4pm) or 0800 912 1700 and our customer service team will be happy to help.

Thank you for your support while we carry out this work.

Kind regards

Caroline
