Adverse Weather Procedures
This page provides details of the school procedures in the event of any adverse weather conditions or events that may affect the operational procedures of the school. Our business continuity plan is in place to ensure that we
- keep the school open whenever possible
- maintain effective communications with all involved
- minimise disruption to education
In the event of severe weather conditions or any event that may affect the everyday functions of the school, I am guided by the advice from Midlothian Council and following an assessment of the situation, and after consultation with appropriate staff in Midlothian Council, a decision will be made on whether or not to close the school.
Parents/carers will be given information about school closures and any special arrangements as soon as possible after such a decision is taken. We will use the following means of communication:
- SEEMIS text messages
- School website: www.beeslackhigh.co.uk
- Midlothian Council website: www.midlothian.gov.uk
- Twitter: @BeeslackHigh
- Local radio
- Individual telephone calls as required
It is crucial that we have up to date emergency contact information for all our pupils, if you have recently updated or changed your mobile or home telephone number can you notify the school office of any changes as soon as possible.
I would ask you to discuss the prospect of an emergency closure with your child/children and ensure they are aware of the best arrangements for them in the event of adverse weather or any other event that may affect the school.
Should the school be closed arrangements for re-opening the school will be communicated via the same methods of communication outlined above. Hopefully we will not require to put these arrangements in place.
