Broad General Education (S1/2/3)
From S1 to S3, pupils will experience a broad general education (BGE) as part of the Social Studies faculty. Geography is the study of the Earth’s landscapes, people, places and environments and topics studied include Landscapes; Environmental Issues; Global Development and Natural Hazards. Throughout the course pupils will develop their knowledge of world and how humans interact with the planet. The skills they will develop include describing and explaining, interpreting and analysing, comparing and contrasting to reach balanced conclusions, and researching and presenting information. Pupils are taught using a variety of methods including whole class, group, paired and individual work.
Senior Phase
As part of the Senior Phase S4 to S6, Geography is taught at National 3, National 4, National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher levels. Pupils are given opportunities to develop fieldwork and research skills in gathering and analysing geographical data. The courses encourage pupils to gain an appreciation of the ways in which people and the environment interact in response to physical and human processes at local, national, international and global scales.
